Forwarding Domains...

GoDaddy.com $7.49 .com

Something I've done here and I'm grateful I did was to purchase a domain and forward it to the blogspot address.

It's great because I can quickly tell someone the address of my blog without saying dot blogspot dot com! They forget that part every time.

Here are blogspots' instructions for GoDaddy.com,
the site I like to use for domain names.
  1. Log in to your account at www.godaddy.com
  2. Open the Domains tab and select My Domain Names. You'll be directed to the Domain Manager page.
  3. Click the domain that you'd like to use with your blog.
  4. Click the Total DNS Control And MX Records link at the bottom of the section entitled Total DNS.
  5. Click Add New CNAME Record in the box labelled CNAMES (aliases). If you've already created a CNAME record for your blog's address, click the pencil icon next to the existing CNAME record.
  6. For the Name, enter only the subdomain of the address you want to use for your blog. For example, if you picked www.mydomain.com as your address, enter www here.
  7. Enter ghs.google.com as the Host Name. Specify a TTL or use the default setting of 1 hour.
  8. Click OK, and then click OK again.
It's really not as hard as it sounds!

You will also want to tell blogspot that you've got a forwarding domain name. You can do that easily too. Simply go to Settings, then Publishing and enter your domain name where it asks for one.

You can do domain forwarding through blogspot, but you won't be able to apply any discount codes ... you pay their price, whatever it is at the time.

Right now you can purchase a domain name for as little as $7.49 a year
with the discount code cjc749fat for a .com address.
or...
Just click on the GoDaddy image above to get the discounted price for .coms

I used it today for another site with no problems!

Not doing .com? Here are a few other codes good through the end of the month...
$5 off $30 cjcfat30
$10 off $50 cjcfat50

So is there a benefit to having a domain? How does it help you? It just eliminates the need for the .blogspot...thing?

Just wondering.

Thanks for posting this! I didn't realize how inexpensive and easy that would be. I assumed I would have to set up my own blog template if I had a domain. I never knew it could be forwarded. Thanks, again, for the very useful info!

Connie.. yes, it eliminates the blogspot thing which some of my friends always seemed to forget.

Noelle... no problem. You don't have to change your blog template or anything... it just forwards them to the blogspot address. But.. they can still use the blogspot address too if that's the one they have bookmarked, etc. Won't change anything for them if you don't actually change your "blogspot" address.
