Taco Pie...

Here's a recipe made from the frugal meal items I had on hand.
Found the recipe on allrecipes.com & altered it a bit to fit my family's tastes.

Taco Pie

1 lb ground chuck $1.79 (purchased a few weeks ago)
1 pkg lowfat crescent rolls ($.35-$.50)
refried beans ($.59)
sour cream (minimal amount, $.25)
taco seasoning -Free
onion (minimal amount)
1/2 pkg 2% shredded mexican cheese $.84
lettuce $.25
salsa -Free
jalapenos -Free
nacho/tortilla chips $.50 (we used very few of these)

Cost me less than $5!

Lay crescent rolls out flat onto glass pan. Bake at 350 F until done but not browned. While crescent rolls are baking, brown beef with 1/2 an onion, drain. Add taco mix to beef according to directions. When crescent roll layer is done, add light layer of refried beans (if you like them), then sour cream, beef, cheese, jalapenos & bake until cheese melts. Remove from oven and add a layer of shredded lettuce and salsa to taste.

This is a great inexpensive meal that you can alter easily to your family's tastes. We enjoyed it because it was different from traditional tacos and bakes.

Enjoy!

Shopping ebay...

I enjoy shopping ebay...

We live near a small city and sometimes I just can't find what I'm looking for in town. Other times I wouldn't mind something that was used and potentially cheaper.

Did you know you can get a percentage back on all of your ebay purchases? Through a program called BigCrumbs.

Our experience...
Last summer we decided we wanted to purchase a woodstove to get us through the winter. I grew up with one and we had one at our previous home and we had the desire to put one in our current home. We just love them! Anyway, we searched online and did some calling around and the prices were astounding. We spent some time on ebay and made our purchase of a used one and it's more beautiful than many of the new ones we've seen online! We were even able to find one that was enameled, which makes it so nice looking. We figure we saved at least 50% on the purchase of the stove alone... I used BigCrumb & it earned us $12.03 on our purchase! Definately worth clicking through their site for that!

BigCrumbs and Ebates are similar programs, if you've ever heard of Ebates.

BigCrumbs is the only source I know of where you can get cash back for shopping ebay, and all you have to do is sign up for their program.

For more about BigCrumbs go here.

What to know more about Ebates too?
I've posted about Ebates here.

Kmart Clearance!!

2 outfits $5.99 each!

Gotta post about this find!

Thanks mom for alerting me to their clearance!

Mom let me know she was in Kmart & found some good buys on women's clearance & had noticed lots of clearance signs throughout the store. Thanks mom!!

I went in because she had mentioned the clearance looking more for clothing for my little guy than myself. I did find myself 2 tops, but my main haul was for my 3 yr old son.

Disney Outfits!

I found several licensed Disney outfits, both shirt and pants, for $4.99 each!! I only got 2 Disney outfits because I wasn't sure if they would fit next year... we usually have to separate outfits because my son is so long and lean most pants are too big around when the shirts fit. They also had a limited selection of sizes that would work for him.

I did find 2 sets, not Disney, that were also clearanced for $5.99, they're pictured at the top of the post.

pic of Disney fleece & $2 pants (Kmart brand)

They had some Disney fleece pullovers & jackets for $4.99, I had a hard time deciding which I liked best but knew I would need something warm come fall and he loved Tiger at DisneyWorld!

Save even more...
If you decide to go check out the clearance yourself, go to the Kmart website first and sign up for their emails. They'll sent you a coupon in an email for $5 off of $50 just for signing up... don't miss out on the extra savings!

I love shopping clearance!

Tuesday shopping trip....

Pinecone Research...

If you've never been a member of a research company,
here's one you might want to try...

Pinecone Research

Pinecone Research pays $3 for each survey that you qualify for and complete, they also enter you into sweepstakes. I've tried several survey companies only to find out that I would normally get through the pre-question part of a survey and never qualify. At Pinecone Research I qualify much of the time and the surveys are easy, although sometimes asking repetitive information which can get annoying.

They are a reputable company that pays either by check or Paypal and there is no minimum account balance before they pay you, they pay after each survey you complete.

The difficult thing about Pinecone is getting in. They rarely put out an advertisement online looking for more participants, and you have to know where to find these.

Right now they are offering current members the opportunity to invite friends and family to participate. Since I'm a current member of Pinecone, I have the ability to invite you to be a part of Pinecone Research.

Want an invite?

Leave me a comment with your email and I will send you a link to get started. Hurry though, they may have a limited number of spaces available.

Yearly Budget to date...

Here are my savings totals so far for the year!

Remember I did start 1/5/09...
(& I was away for a weeks vacation!)

-----------------------

Details for the week of
Feb 15-21, 2009...

CVS
oop $0
saved $35.16
(used $1.43 from gift card)

Walgreens
oop $5.16
saved $47.01
rebates $12.48

Meijer
oop $29.71
saved $49.11

Aldi
spent $7.01

Bread Store
spent $4.25

Weekly totals...
oop $46.12 ($13.88 under budget!)
saved $131.27
rebates $12.48

I have my own weekly budget of $60
I had an overage last week (2/8-2/14) of $12.84, so I have an extra $26.72 in the "bank" of grocery money. I will may use this on a good meat sale when one comes along.

----------------------

Year to date Grand totals!!

Out of pocket $357.13
Saved $1,242.72

rebates $53.47

---------------------------------

You can do it too...

If you've just started learning to watch for sales, stockpile and use coupons, you will probably not see this kind of savings right off & that's ok... it's normal.

It takes some time to learn where the deals are and when to "play" a coupon. Sometimes I hold a "high value" coupon and hope for a special sale. After you've been using coupons for awhile, you will notice a pattern to the sales which will give you an extra edge at getting those great buys.

Also... when you are first starting, you will have to supply your regular needs, as you won't have a stockpile to pull from for everything yet. These kinds of savings come when you don't "need" for much of anything but milk, eggs, bread and fresh produce and use the majority of your grocery $ to keep your stockpile in good shape. Don't make your family "suffer" for things they need, keep them happy and slowly begin your stockpile. Keep with it, and you too can see this kind of a result!

Feel free to ask questions! I'll help you if I can.
